Credit Memo - Return Inventory to Stock (CM Order Type)

The CM (Credit Memo) order type is used to return inventory to stock and credit the customer’s account using information from the original invoice, including lot/serial numbers. This type of credit memo does not require the warehouse to receive the inventory through a separate Shipment transaction. It is generally used to correct processing errors.

NOTE: This process will only work for invoices/sales orders created during service billing, if all details lines are being returned.

Enter a CM (Credit Memo) type order

  1. Navigate to Sales Orders > Transactions > Sales Orders and create a new CM (Credit Memo) type order. (Alternatively, select the New Credit Memo tile from the Sales Orders menu.)
  2. Enter the required header information:
    1. Customer
    2. Location
    3. Date (use the original invoice date when correcting a transaction processed in error
    4. Customer Order number (PO)
    5. Any other applicable fields

  1. Use 'Add Invoice' to search for and select the original Invoice Number in the AR Doc Nbr. field.

  1. Select the lines to be returned or use the select all option to add items
    1. Ensure all applicable lot/serial numbers are included.
  2. Select Add & Close to bring the selected items into the CM order.

Create the Customer Credit Memo

  1. Click Prepare Invoice from the CM Order window.
    1. This action generates a new Credit Memo in the SO Invoices screen.
  2. Review the Credit Memo and confirm all details and the total credited amount.
  3. Release the Credit Memo.
    1. Releasing the document returns the inventory to stock.

  1.  Apply the Credit Memo to the original invoice, if it is being used to correct an error in the initial transaction.
